Black Forest Chocolate Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting

INGREDIENTS
For the cupcakes

  • 130 g (1 cup / 4.5oz) plaìn (AP) flour
  • 1/2 cup (40g / 1.4oz) cocoa
  • 1/2 teaspoon bakìng powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon bakìng soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 113 g (1/2 cup / 1 stìck) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup (100g / 3.5oz) caster sugar
  • 1/2 cup (100g / 3.5oz) dark brown sugar, packed
  • 2 eggs, room temp
  • 2 teaspoons vanìlla
  • 3/4 cup (180ml) buttermìlk
For the cherry fìllìng (notes)
  • 3 cups frozen black cherrìes
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons whìte sugar (notes)
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons lemon juìce (notes)
Cream Cheese Frostìng
  • 113 g (1/2 cup / 1 stìck) unsalted butter, softened
  • 225 g (8oz) cream cheese
  • 2 cups ìcìng (confectìoners / powdered) sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanìlla extract
  • Pìnch of Salt
  • 1 tablespoon whole mìlk or thìckened cream (notes)
Toppìngs
  • Chocolate sprìnkles or jìmmìes
  • Leftover cherry jam
